Erlinaさんと吉田さんが筑波大と東大物性研に出張しました。今回の目的は、筑波大数理物質系の中村先生の研究室との共同研究として低温STMを使った研究を開始するために、まずは装置を知り使い方に慣れるための試しの実験させて頂きました。到着初日にチャンバーのベークを仕掛け、翌日から測定を開始しました。金沢では装置の配線など修理の作業をずっとやってきたErlinaさんにとって、定常的に動く装置に始めて触れる機会となりました。慣れないながらも頑張って試料や探針の搬送を行い、今後のための使用マニュアルを作ってくれました。練習用の試料としてグラファイト表面を観察し、原子像もすぐに見ることができて次回のための良い準備となりました。今後が楽しみです。お声掛けを下さった中村先生、また実験に関して色々と助けてくださった武安先生、近藤先生、本当にありがとうございました。今後ともよろしくお願いします。その後、千葉県柏市にある東京大学物性研究所に移動し、長谷川先生と共同研究等の議論をしました。また、Erlinaさんは長谷川研や物性研が世界に誇る超強磁場施設などを見学させてもらいました。Erlinaさんは世界最先端の装置をたくさん見て圧倒されていました。長谷川先生、野村先生ありがとうございました。また遊びに、いや実験しに来ましょう。

Erlina and Yoshida-san visited University of Tsukuba and Institute of solid state physics (ISSP) at University of Tokyo. The main purpose of the trip was to check the performance of the low-temperature STM in Nakamura laboratory and to get used to it for our future collaboration with Nakamura lab. We baked the system in the first day and started STM measurements on a graphite sample from the next day. Since Erlina has been working on repairing and updating wiring of our low-temperature STM, it was a great opportunity for her to work on a nicely working STM. She worked hard on sample and tip transfer inside the UHV chamber and prepared the user manual for our future experiment. We could manage to observe atomic-resolved images of graphite and it was an important step for us. Thanks a lot Prof. Nakamura, Prof. Kondo, and Prof. Takeyasu. After the experiment, we moved to ISSP and discussed future collaboration and more with Prof. Hasegawa. Erlina had lab tours in Hasegawa lab and the world’s best pulse high magnetic field facility at ISSP. Thanks a lot, Prof. Hasegawa and Prof. Nomura showing us the world-class instruments.
